Professional Profile

Dr Tometzki undertook extensive training in general paediatrics and neonatalogy before concentrating on Paediatric Cardiology. He trained in prestigious cardiac centres in the UK namely Killingbeck Hospital Leeds, Yorkhill Hospital Glasgow, Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children Edinburgh. He then undertook a sabbatical at The University of California, San Francisco in Paediatric & Foetal Cardiology with Professor Norman Silverman. He was appointed as Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist in Edinburgh in 1999 but moved to Bristol later the same year.

Dr Tometzki is a Senior Paediatric Cardiologist at The Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. Bristol is now one of the largest Congenital Heart Services in the country with excellent results for both surgery and interventional cardiac catheterisation. Dr Tometzki is considered a regional expert accepting referrals from all over South West England and South Wales as well as further afield for his work in interventional cardiac catheterisation for congenital and structural heart disease as well as for fetal cardiology.

Fetal cardiology is a very specialised area of congenital heart disease with two specialists based in Bristol covering the majority of the South West of England. Much of this work is undertaken via telemedicine allowing remote diagnosis and counselling of couples without the need to travel long distances. Dr Tometzki is also an accomplished echocardiographer (ultrasound examination of the heart) for all ages from foetus to adulthood. He accepts referrals of patients with heart murmurs, faints (syncope), palpitations as well as screening for inherited cardiac disease in childhood/adolescence such as cardiomyopathy.

Dr Tometzki is an Executive Officer of the British Congenital Cardiac Association.

Dr Tometzki can arrange to see NHS and private patients in clinics at several NHS hospitals, namely
St Michael's Hospital, The Royal United Hospital Bath & Torbay Hospital.
